Welcome to the world of Water Lily Therapy.
I am so fortunate to be able to say I love my work. I suppose my family should have known I would become a social worker when, as a precocious child, I would frequently take off running in the grocery store to talk to strangers. I can assume I also gave my parents several moments of sheer panic in the process.
For college, I attended New York University for my undergraduate degrees in both Cinema Studies and Psychology. Originally, I aspired to be the next Steven Spielberg, but soon I fell in love with the authenticity of connection that therapy allowed. Three years later (after a smorgasbord of social service jobs including AmeriCorps), I attended The University of Texas at Austin to earn my master’s degree in Science and Social Work.
My primary areas of practice include chronic illness, grief and loss, low self-esteem, LGBTQIAP+, depression, anxiety, neurodiversity, OCD and trauma. My approach is eclectic, but based primarily in Client-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with inclusions of motivational interviewing and narrative therapy techniques. When appropriate, I love to incorporate creative interventions such as art, film and humor! I believe that the bond formed between therapist and client is the foundation for healing, change and growth. I may not be able to provide a safe physical space, but my goal is to create a safe time and virtual space for all persons to feel truly heard, accepted and understood.
Finding a therapist that "fits" can be extremely difficult. Don't give up. You deserve great care, and hopefully we can start working together on self discovery, compassion and acceptance. I do not use a “one-size-fits-all” model in my work as I view all persons as unique.
I am 100% virtual and licensed in both Maryland and Virginia. I am additionally an approved Clinical Supervisor in MD for LMSWs/LGPCs and in VA for LMSWs.
I look forward to potentially getting to know you and working together.
